from$2,600round trip · per person
United flies more long-haul routes than any other US airline, and Polaris — lie-flat 1-2-1 on every long-haul aircraft, with Saks Fifth Avenue bedding and the Polaris lounges at its hubs — is the reason to choose it. The new Polaris Studio suites with doors are arriving on the 787-9 from 2025, and from Newark, Washington, Chicago, Houston, Denver, San Francisco and Los Angeles, United reaches Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and South America nonstop.

The seat
What makes United Polaris different
Polaris is a lie-flat 1-2-1 with direct aisle access at every seat, a 16-inch screen, a Saks Fifth Avenue duvet and pillow set, and — the part people mention — the option of a second mattress topper. It does not have a door on most aircraft, but the seats are angled for privacy and the 767-300ER's 1-1-1 layout is the most private open business cabin flying. The new Polaris Studio on the 787-9 changes that: eight larger suites with sliding doors, a 27-inch screen and a companion seat, ahead of a standard Polaris cabin that also gains doors. United's other advantage is reach — it flies to more international destinations than any US carrier, with the biggest transpacific network from San Francisco and the biggest transatlantic one from Newark.

The largest international network of any US airline
United Airlines lounges
The Polaris lounges — Newark, Chicago O'Hare, Washington Dulles, Houston, San Francisco and Los Angeles, with Denver in development — are reserved for Polaris passengers and offer a restaurant with a menu, a buffet, showers and nap rooms; they are the best US-carrier lounges outside Delta One. United Clubs at every hub are open to Polaris passengers. Abroad, United uses Star Alliance partner lounges — Lufthansa at Frankfurt, ANA at Tokyo, Singapore at Changi.
Upgrades: can you move up?
Polaris is the top cabin, so the upgrade is into it: United sells cash and MileagePlus upgrades from Premium Plus and economy in the app and at check-in, and Premier elites use PlusPoints. Our contract fares put you in Polaris from the start. If Polaris Studio matters, ask — it is sold as a separate, higher fare on the aircraft that has it.
Important to know before you book
- Polaris seats on the 777-200ER and 767 were retrofitted and are consistent; the older 787-8 and some 787-9s have the same seat without doors. Polaris Studio is 787-9-only.
- United flies many European leisure routes seasonally (Venice, Nice, Prague, Reykjavik, Athens from Washington and Chicago).
- On short Caribbean and Mexico routes the front cabin is domestic-style First on a narrowbody, not Polaris.
- United's joint-venture partners (Lufthansa Group, ANA, Air New Zealand) may operate the flight; the cabin will be theirs.
Rankings and reviews
United has been named Best Airline in North America by APEX and has held a Skytrax 4-Star rating; Polaris was widely reviewed as the best-executed US business product when it launched, and the Polaris lounges at Newark and San Francisco are consistently ranked among the top US lounges.
Why book United Airlines with LuxeSkies
United's fares vary enormously between its seven hubs, and the aircraft on a given day determines whether you get Polaris Studio, a door, or the older open seat. We hold contract fares from $2,600 round trip, compare every hub for your route, confirm the aircraft, and price United against Lufthansa, ANA and Air New Zealand on the joint-venture routes so you fly the better cabin for the same money.
United Airlines questions
How much is United Polaris from the US?
Our negotiated starting fares are $2,600 round trip for lead-time bookings on European routes, with Lisbon and Dublin among the lowest from Newark; Asia, Australia and Africa are higher. We compare every United hub for your route within 30 minutes.
Does United have First Class on international flights?
No. Polaris is the top cabin on every long-haul flight. United sells First Class only on domestic and short-haul aircraft.
What is Polaris Studio?
United's new top suite on the 787-9 delivered from 2025: eight larger suites with sliding doors, a 27-inch screen, a companion seat and an enhanced meal service, sold at a premium over standard Polaris.
Which United aircraft is best for Polaris?
The 767-300ER's 1-1-1 layout is the most private of the older cabins; the new 787-9 with Polaris Studio and doors is the best overall. All Polaris seats are lie-flat with aisle access.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”
