Flying Business Class to Istanbul
Turkish Airlines is the only carrier on the route, and it covers the country: New York JFK, Newark, Boston, Washington, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Denver, Detroit, Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Its newer 787-9s and A350s carry a 1-2-1 lie-flat business cabin with direct aisle access; older 777-300ERs have a 2-3-2 layout where the middle seat has no aisle, and we check the aircraft on every fare before we quote. The catering, cooked to order by an onboard chef, is a real differentiator, and the business lounge at Istanbul Airport — a multi-level space with live cooking stations, a cinema, sleeping suites and showers — is the best reason to accept a longer connection anywhere in Europe. Turkish has no First Class cabin on US routes.
Istanbul Airport, which opened in 2019, is one of the largest in the world and about 45–60 minutes from Sultanahmet by car or metro. Turkish's stopover program gives business-class passengers on qualifying itineraries a complimentary hotel stay in the city when the connection is long enough, which turns a one-stop to Athens, Dubai, Cairo, Nairobi or Delhi into two trips for one fare. Domestic connections to Cappadocia (Kayseri or Nevşehir), Izmir, Bodrum, Dalaman and Antalya take about an hour.
Spring is the season: the tulip festival in April fills the parks, May and early June are warm without the summer crowds, and September–October is the second sweet spot. July and August are hot and busy. Ramadan dates move each year (roughly a month earlier annually) and fares often dip during it, then spike for Eid. Winter is cold and damp but cheap, with business fares from New York at or below our $2,400 starting price.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”
