The seat
What makes Business Class different
The A350ULR business seat on the nonstops is a lie-flat 1-2-1 with a well-padded bed that folds down from the seatback rather than reclining, which gives it a firmer, flatter surface than most. On the 777-300ER and A380, the business seat is famously wide — at 25–28 inches, wider than some airlines' First — and the center pairs on the A380 convert to a double bed. Suites on the A380 are the reference point for First Class anywhere: a separate leather armchair and a full-size bed behind sliding doors, with adjoining suites combining into a double room. What sets the airline apart, though, is consistent: the crew, the catering (Book the Cook, with regional menus and the Lobster Thermidor that has become a rite of passage), and a service culture that has held for decades.

Singapore Airlines lounges
At Changi Terminal 3, the SilverKris Business Class Lounge was rebuilt in 2022 and is one of the largest and best-designed in Asia, with a restaurant, productivity pods and showers; the SilverKris First Class Lounge sits above it, and The Private Room — reserved for Suites and First passengers — offers à la carte dining. In the US, Singapore Airlines has its own lounge at San Francisco and uses Star Alliance partner lounges (United Polaris or United Club) at New York, Newark, Los Angeles and Seattle.
Upgrades: can you move up?
Upgrades on Singapore Airlines are mostly a miles question: KrisFlyer members can upgrade eligible business fares to First or Suites with miles, and the airline runs mySQupgrade, a bidding program on selected flights. Cash upgrades at the airport are less common than on the Gulf carriers. If Suites is the goal, the New York–Frankfurt–Singapore A380 routing is the way to fly it from the US; we quote it alongside the nonstop.
Important to know before you book
- The nonstops from New York, Newark, Los Angeles and San Francisco have no First Class and no economy — just Business and Premium Economy.
- Suites and First reach the US only via Frankfurt on the JFK route.
- Eighteen hours is long even flat; the crew serve two full meals and the cabin is kept dark for most of the flight. Most clients sleep two separate blocks.
- Singapore Airlines is strict about baggage and fare rules; changes on the cheapest business fares carry fees.
- Alcohol is served on board and in the lounges.
Rankings and reviews

Book the Cook and seat assignments are handled before you fly; one manager from quote to e-ticket; a reply in 30 minutes.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”
