Flying Business & First Class to Hong Kong
Cathay Pacific flies Hong Kong nonstop from New York JFK, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Its retrofitted 777-300ERs carry the Aria Suite — a 1-2-1 with a sliding door and a 24-inch 4K screen — and a six-seat First Class with a 36-inch-wide seat; the A350s carry the well-regarded reverse-herringbone business seat without a door. First flies from New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco only. United flies Polaris nonstop from San Francisco. One-stops via Tokyo on ANA or Japan Airlines, via Seoul on Korean Air, via Taipei on EVA Air, or via Doha on Qatar Airways are competitive, particularly from the East Coast and in Lunar New Year season when the nonstops fill.
Cathay's Hong Kong lounges are the ground experience against which every other airline is measured. The Pier First has day suites, a restaurant and a spa; The Pier Business has the Noodle Bar and shower suites; The Wing First has private cabanas with bathtubs; The Deck has a terrace. All are open on the boarding pass — First lounges for First passengers and oneworld Emeralds, Business lounges for everyone in business. Hong Kong is also a superb hub for the rest of the region: Bali, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Manila and Singapore are two to five hours, Tokyo four, Sydney nine, with minimum connections under an hour.
October through December is the season — dry, clear and cool enough to walk — and March and April are the second window. June through September is hot, humid and carries typhoon risk, though fares are lower. Lunar New Year in late January or February is the peak for both demand and price, and Golden Week (October 1–7) brings mainland visitors. Our $3,600 starting fare from San Francisco applies to shoulder-season business; the Aria Suite and First are quoted on request.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”
