What makes Business Studio different
The A380 First Apartment is a room, not a seat: an armchair on one side, a 6-foot-8 ottoman-bed on the other, a vanity with a mirror, a sliding door, and access to a shower room shared by the nine apartments. Two apartments combine for couples. Business Studio on the newer 787s and the A350-1000 is a 1-2-1 lie-flat with a sliding door, a large screen and a design that puts the seat at an angle to the aisle for privacy; on the A380 it is a 1-2-1 without a door but with The Lobby, a lounge area between First and Business. Etihad's food is built around Arabic mezze alongside a Western menu, with dine-on-demand in both cabins.

Abu Dhabi's Terminal A, which opened in 2023, has new Etihad Business and First Class lounges with restaurants, spa treatments, showers and family rooms; First Class passengers get a separate space with à la carte dining. In the US, Etihad operates its own lounge at New York JFK Terminal 4 and uses partner lounges at Washington, Chicago and Boston.
Upgrades: can you move up?
Etihad sells cash upgrades to First before departure and at the airport when seats are open, runs an upgrade-bidding program on many flights, and Etihad Guest members can upgrade eligible fares with miles. The A380 flies only the New York route, so the First Apartment upgrade is a JFK-only proposition; on the 787 routes the First Suite is the equivalent. We quote First alongside Business at booking on every route that has it.
Important to know before you book
- The A380 with the First Apartment operates the New York route only; Washington, Chicago and Boston are 787s.
- Not every Business Studio has a door — the A380 and older 787-9s do not.
- Chauffeur-drive rules have changed several times; ask which fare types include it.
- Etihad is not in an alliance; its main US partners are American and JetBlue, and Etihad Guest miles can be earned on American.
- Alcohol is served on board and in the lounges.
