Flying Business & First Class to Abu Dhabi
Etihad is the nonstop carrier, from New York JFK, Washington, Chicago and Boston, with Charlotte announced. The New York route carries the A380 with the First Apartment — a private room with a separate armchair and a full-length bed, a shower room shared by nine apartments, and The Residence, a three-room suite, at the front; Washington, Chicago and Boston are 787s with the Business Studio, a lie-flat 1-2-1 that has a sliding door on the newest aircraft and not on older ones. We confirm which. One-stop alternatives are Emirates into Dubai with a road transfer (often the better First Class option from cities Etihad does not serve), Qatar Airways via Doha, and British Airways via London, which flies Abu Dhabi nonstop from Heathrow.
Terminal A, which opened in late 2023, is the reason the arrival is easy: it is vast, uncrowded, and Etihad's First and Business lounges inside it have restaurants, spa treatments and showers. Chauffeur-drive is included in First and on eligible Business fares in Abu Dhabi. The city is 30 minutes away; Dubai is 90 minutes by highway, and many clients fly into one and out of the other on an open-jaw that prices like a round trip. Etihad's stopover program includes free hotel nights on qualifying itineraries to the Maldives (four hours), Mumbai and Delhi (three), and Southeast Asia.
Abu Dhabi's season runs November through March. The Formula 1 Grand Prix at Yas Marina in early December is the single most expensive weekend of the year — book by September — and Christmas week follows. October and April are pleasant shoulders. Summer is very hot and brings the lowest premium fares; the Louvre, the Grand Mosque and the indoor attractions on Yas Island are air-conditioned, and a summer stopover on the way to the Indian Ocean is entirely workable.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”
