Lufthansa Business & First Class

from$2,300round trip · per person

Lufthansa flies more US–Europe routes than any other European airline, and its First Class ground experience in Frankfurt — a private terminal with its own security, a restaurant, a cigar lounge and a Porsche to the aircraft — is the best in the world. Its new Allegris cabins bring doors to business class and a redesigned First; its older aircraft still carry a 2-2-2 business seat, so the aircraft you are booked on matters more on Lufthansa than on almost any other carrier.

What makes Allegris Business different

Lufthansa First is the reason to book Lufthansa. At Frankfurt, First passengers arrive at a separate building with a private security lane and passport control, a restaurant with a menu and a wine cellar, a cigar lounge, showers with a bathtub, and a personal assistant who drives them across the apron to the aircraft in a Porsche or Mercedes when the flight is called; arriving passengers get a First Class lounge with the same car service to their connection. In the air, the 747-8 First cabin has eight seats on the nose of the aircraft, each with a separate bed and seat; Allegris First on the A350 adds a suite with doors and a double-bed "Suite Plus." Allegris Business is a big step up from the old seat — doors on most seats, a choice of extra-long, extra-wide and privacy seats, and a 4K screen — but the older 2-2-2 cabin is still in service and it is the one to avoid if you can.

Lufthansa lounges

Frankfurt: the First Class Terminal (First only, a separate building), First Class Lounges in Concourses A and B, Senator Lounges (Star Alliance Gold) and Business Lounges throughout. Munich: a First Class Lounge in Terminal 2 with a car transfer to the aircraft, plus Senator and Business Lounges. In the US, Lufthansa operates its own lounges at New York JFK, Newark, Boston, Washington and Detroit, and uses United Polaris or partner lounges elsewhere.

Upgrades: can you move up?

Lufthansa runs upgrade bidding on most flights, sells cash upgrades to Business and First before departure and at the gate, and Miles & More members can upgrade eligible fares with miles — Lufthansa First is one of the few First cabins where a mileage upgrade from Business is realistic on the day. If First is the goal, we price it at booking: a negotiated Lufthansa First fare on the 747-8 from New York, Chicago, Washington or the West Coast is often within reach of a peak-date business seat.

Rankings and reviews

Lufthansa holds Skytrax's 5-Star Airline rating and has won Best Airline in Europe and Best First Class Lounge awards; the Frankfurt First Class Terminal is routinely named the best First Class ground experience in the world by reviewers, and Allegris has been praised as one of the most ambitious cabin redesigns of the decade.

We hold contract fares from $2,300 round trip, confirm the cabin on every segment, price Frankfurt against Munich and the one-stops to secondary cities, quote First wherever it flies, and watch for equipment swaps after ticketing. “Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”

“It was great! So helpful and patient the only negative thing I can say is it wasn’t communicated the price for assistance until I already paid and left a tip.”
