Flying Business & First Class to Munich
Lufthansa flies Munich nonstop from New York, Newark, Boston, Washington, Chicago, Charlotte, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle, with seasonal additions in summer, and its A380s — which carry Lufthansa First — are based here and fly selected long-haul routes. The Allegris business cabin is spreading across the Munich fleet. United flies Polaris from Newark, Washington, Chicago and San Francisco. Between the two Star Alliance partners, Munich has more premium nonstops from the US than any German city except Frankfurt, and no other carrier competes on the route — which is why Lufthansa and United fares are worth pricing against a one-stop on SWISS via Zurich or Austrian via Vienna.
Munich Airport is consistently rated among the best in Europe. Terminal 2 is Lufthansa and Star Alliance only, the lounges are excellent, and the S-Bahn reaches the city in about 40 minutes. Salzburg is 90 minutes by train, Innsbruck under two hours, and the ski areas at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Kitzbühel and St. Anton are all reachable by car or train the same afternoon. Many clients fly into Munich and out of Zurich or Vienna on an open-jaw for an Alpine loop.
Oktoberfest — roughly the last two weeks of September into the first weekend of October — is the one date range to book far ahead or avoid: hotels and premium seats sell out months in advance and fares double. Christmas markets from late November are the second peak. May–June and early September are ideal for the city and the lakes; January–March is cheapest and pairs naturally with skiing, with business fares closest to our $2,400 Newark starting price.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”
