Flying Business Class to Copenhagen
SAS, now a SkyTeam member and a Delta partner, flies Copenhagen nonstop from New York JFK, Newark, Boston, Washington, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Los Angeles and San Francisco, with a lie-flat 1-2-1 business cabin on its A350s and A330s. Delta flies New York–Copenhagen and, in season, Atlanta; United flies Polaris from Newark. Because SAS and Delta now sell each other's flights, the effective competition on this route is the SkyTeam pair against United, plus one-stops on KLM via Amsterdam, Lufthansa via Frankfurt and Finnair via Helsinki, which reach Copenhagen in about an hour and frequently price below the nonstops. No US–Copenhagen flight carries a First Class cabin.
Kastrup is compact and famously efficient: baggage to the metro platform takes minutes, and the train station under the terminal has direct services to Malmö and Gothenburg. SAS's Scandinavian network makes Copenhagen the natural connecting point for Stockholm, Oslo, Bergen, Tromsø and the Norwegian fjords, all within 60–90 minutes, and for Reykjavik. A premium ticket into Copenhagen and home from Stockholm or Oslo prices close to a simple round trip.
Scandinavia is seasonal in a way southern Europe is not. May through August brings 17-hour days, Tivoli in full swing and the highest fares; the Roskilde Festival in late June–early July fills the city. September is calm and still mild. December is Tivoli's Christmas season and the second peak. January and February are dark and cold but the cheapest months by a distance, with business seats from New York at or below our $2,200 starting price — a fair trade for a trip built around restaurants and design rather than daylight.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”
