What makes Flagship Business different
Flagship Business is a lie-flat 1-2-1 on every long-haul aircraft — reverse-herringbone on the 787-9 and 777-200ER, a different 1-2-1 on the 777-300ER — with direct aisle access, a mattress pad on request and Flagship Lounge access at the hubs. Flagship Suite is the new standard: a 1-2-1 suite with a privacy door, wireless charging and a larger screen, on the 787-9P from 2024 and on 777-300ERs as they are retrofitted. That retrofit is also removing Flagship First, American's last true First Class cabin; a few 777-300ERs still carry it, and the Flagship First Dining rooms at Dallas and Miami and the Chelsea Lounge at JFK serve its passengers. American's genuine advantage is Latin America: from Miami it flies more of the region, with more lie-flat seats, than anyone.

American Airlines lounges
Flagship Lounges — at New York JFK, Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago O'Hare and Philadelphia — offer a buffet, a bar, showers and quiet rooms for Flagship Business passengers. The Chelsea Lounge at JFK Terminal 8, shared with British Airways, is an à la carte dining lounge for Flagship First and oneworld Emerald. Admirals Clubs are available at every hub. Abroad, American uses oneworld partner lounges — BA at Heathrow, Qantas at Sydney, JAL at Tokyo.
Upgrades: can you move up?
American sells cash and AAdvantage mile upgrades in the app and at check-in, and elites use systemwide upgrades. Flagship First is disappearing, so the upgrade from Flagship Business to First exists only on the 777-300ERs that still carry it; we quote it where available. On our contract fares you are in Flagship Business or Suite from the start.
Important to know before you book
- Flagship Suite is only on the 787-9P and retrofitted 777-300ERs; the 787-8 and 777-200ER carry the older Flagship Business seat. We confirm the aircraft.
- Flagship First is being retired; if you want it, book while it flies.
- On short Caribbean, Mexico and Colombia routes the front cabin is domestic-style First on a narrowbody, not Flagship Business.
- Many European routes are seasonal (Venice, Athens, Prague, Copenhagen, Nice).
Rankings and reviews
American has been rated among the top US carriers in APEX's regional awards and holds a Skytrax 3-Star to 4-Star rating; its Flagship Lounges and the Chelsea Lounge at JFK have been reviewed as among the best US airline lounges, and the Flagship Suite has been well received as a genuine step up.
Why book American Airlines with LuxeSkies
American's premium fares to Latin America and the Caribbean are the most negotiable in the region, and its transatlantic joint venture with British Airways and Iberia means one ticket can put you on any of the three. We hold contract fares from $2,600 round trip, confirm whether your aircraft has the Flagship Suite, price American against BA and Iberia on Europe routes, and against LATAM on South America.
American Airlines questions
How much is American Airlines business class from the US?
Our negotiated starting fares are $2,600 round trip for lead-time bookings on European routes; Latin America starts lower — São Paulo and Buenos Aires from Miami around $2,100 — and Asia and Australia higher.
Does American Airlines still have First Class on international flights?
On a few 777-300ERs, yes, but Flagship First is being retired as aircraft are retrofitted with the Flagship Suite. Flagship Business or Flagship Suite is the top cabin on most routes.
What is the difference between Flagship Business and Flagship Suite?
Both are lie-flat 1-2-1 with aisle access. Flagship Suite adds a sliding privacy door, wireless charging and a larger screen, and flies on the 787-9P and retrofitted 777-300ERs.
Is American Airlines the best choice for South America in business class?
From Miami, usually — it flies more South American cities with more lie-flat seats than any US carrier, and its fares to São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Santiago are among the lowest long-haul business fares on the map.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”
