Business Class Flights to Medellin
from$1,500round trip · per person
Medellín is the city that reinvented itself — El Poblado's restaurants and rooftops, the cable cars over the comunas, the Flower Festival every August — set in a valley where it is 72°F every day of the year. Three and a half hours from Miami, with a front cabin on American and Avianca, and the coffee region and Guatapé a couple of hours from the airport.
Arrival airport
José María Córdova International (MDE), in Rionegro, 45–60 minutes from El Poblado; Olaya Herrera (EOH), in the city, handles domestic flights only

~3.5h from Miami or Fort Lauderdale · ~5.5h from New York
Time difference
same as Eastern Standard Time (1 hour behind Eastern in summer — Colombia does not change clocks)

December–March and July–August (drier); the Feria de las Flores (early August) is the peak; April–May and October–November are the rainy months; it is 65–80°F year-round

Flying Business Class to Medellin
American flies Medellín nonstop from Miami with narrowbody recliner First Class; Avianca flies from Miami, Fort Lauderdale and New York JFK with recliner business; JetBlue flies from New York and Fort Lauderdale and Spirit from Fort Lauderdale without a premium cabin. Copa connects via Panama City. No lie-flat seat operates from the US, and on a three-to-five-hour daytime flight none is needed; the front cabin is priority handling, a lounge at the US gateway, bags and a quiet cabin. From cities without a nonstop, a connection through Bogotá on Avianca (an hour on) or through Miami is the routing, and Bogotá–Medellín flights are frequent enough that the connection is painless.
The airport is the trip's one logistical point: José María Córdova is in Rionegro, on the plateau above the valley, 45 to 60 minutes from El Poblado and Laureles by road — a pretty drive, but not a short one. Hotels arrange transfers. Olaya Herrera, in the city itself, handles domestic flights only and is useful for the hop to Cartagena or the coffee region. Guatapé and its rock are two hours from the airport; the coffee towns of Jardín and Jericó three; Santa Fe de Antioquia an hour.
Medellín's climate is its selling point — 65 to 80°F every month — so the calendar is about rain and festivals: December to March and July to August are drier; April–May and October–November wetter. The Feria de las Flores in early August, with the silleteros parade, is the peak for hotels and flights; Christmas — Medellín's Alumbrados lights are the best in Colombia — and Easter follow. February and September–October are the quietest, cheapest windows, below our $1,500 starting fare from Miami.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”
