Flying Business & First Class to Barbados

JetBlue flies Mint — lie-flat suites with sliding doors — on the New York JFK–Barbados route, and it is the reason Barbados is one of the better-served islands for a real bed from the US. American flies recliner First Class from Miami and Charlotte, and Delta and United operate seasonal service from Atlanta and Newark. From London, British Airways flies Club Suite and Virgin Atlantic flies Upper Class daily — the historic route to the island — and for East Coast clients who want a London stop, that is a fully lie-flat itinerary each way. Barbados is also the connection point for the Grenadines: Mustique, Bequia, Canouan and St. Vincent are 45–60 minutes on small aircraft, and we coordinate the connection.

Grantley Adams is on the south coast: the Crane and the south-coast hotels are 15 minutes, Bridgetown 20, and the west-coast Platinum Coast — Sandy Lane, the Fairmont Royal Pavilion, the villas at Royal Westmoreland — 40 minutes. Resorts and villa companies arrange transfers. Barbados is a working island with a real capital, a cricket ground, the Mount Gay distillery and the Oistins fish fry, which is part of why repeat visitors keep coming.

December through April is the season; Christmas–New Year is the peak and Sandy Lane's calendar sets the prices for the whole west coast. The Barbados Food & Rum Festival in October and Crop Over in July–early August draw their own crowds. May and June are warm and good value. Hurricane season runs June to November, but Barbados sits at the southern edge of the belt and is affected less often than the islands to the north; September and October bring the lowest fares, below our $1,400 starting fare from New York.

Barbados flight questions

How much is a premium-cabin flight to Barbados?

Our negotiated starting fares are $1,400 round trip from New York for lead-time bookings; Miami is lower, Charlotte and Atlanta similar. JetBlue Mint from JFK is quoted separately, as are the London routings. Christmas–New Year prices considerably higher.

Is there lie-flat business class to Barbados?

Yes — JetBlue Mint on the New York JFK route, and British Airways and Virgin Atlantic from London. American flies narrowbody recliner First Class from Miami and Charlotte.

How do I get to Mustique or the Grenadines?

Via Barbados. Small aircraft connect Barbados to Mustique, Bequia, Canouan and St. Vincent in 45–60 minutes; we coordinate the connection with your arrival time.

Is Barbados affected by hurricanes?

Less than most Caribbean islands — it sits on the southern edge of the hurricane belt. September and October are still the highest-risk months and the cheapest to fly.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”

“It was great! So helpful and patient the only negative thing I can say is it wasn’t communicated the price for assistance until I already paid and left a tip.”
