Flying Business & First Class to Los Cabos
Every nonstop to Los Cabos is a narrowbody, and the front cabin is a recliner First Class on Alaska Airlines from Seattle, Portland, San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco; on American from Dallas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Chicago and Charlotte; on Delta from Atlanta, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis and Seattle; and on United from Houston, Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Newark and Chicago. There is no lie-flat option on this route from the US, and we will not pretend otherwise; the value is the lounge, priority handling, bags, a quiet cabin and a manager who handles the resort transfer and any change. From the West Coast the flight is short enough that the front cabin is a comfort rather than a necessity.
Los Cabos airport is at the northern end of the 20-mile corridor: San José del Cabo is 20 minutes, the resort corridor 20–40, Cabo San Lucas 40 and the East Cape (Los Barriles, Cabo Pulmo) an hour. Resorts arrange transfers, and a private car is the norm; the airport's lounges are adequate for the return. The destination is the outdoors — whale watching from December to April, sport fishing year-round, golf, and the Sea of Cortez for diving on the East Cape.
The dry season runs November through May, with almost no rain and daytime highs in the 70s and 80s; Christmas–New Year, Presidents' Day week and March spring break are the peaks for both fares and hotels, and the front cabin on Los Angeles and Dallas flights sells out first. Late April through June is warm, dry and good value. July through October is hot and humid with hurricane risk — September is the highest-risk month — and brings the lowest premium fares, well below our $1,100 starting fare from Los Angeles.

About 2½ hours. Phoenix is 2 hours, San Francisco and Denver about 3, Dallas 2¾, Chicago 4¼ and New York around 5¾.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”
