Business Class Flights to Accra
from$3,400round trip · per person
Accra is ten and a half hours from New York — closer than Johannesburg or Nairobi by a wide margin — and the easiest West African capital to arrive in: Delta One Suites nonstop from JFK, United Polaris from Washington, and the European carriers' flat beds via London, Amsterdam and Paris. December is the month the diaspora comes home, and the premium cabins go first.

Flying Business Class to Accra
Delta flies New York JFK–Accra nonstop on the A330-900 with Delta One Suites, and United flies Washington Dulles–Accra with Polaris. Those are the nonstops. The one-stops are strong and often cheaper: British Airways via London (six and a half hours on, with First on the transatlantic leg), KLM via Amsterdam, Air France via Paris, Brussels Airlines via Brussels for Lufthansa Group connections, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha, Royal Air Maroc via Casablanca, Ethiopian via Addis Ababa and Kenya Airways via Nairobi. From the Southeast and Texas, a same-day connection to JFK or Dulles for the nonstop competes with London or Istanbul on total time; we price both. No route to Accra has First Class on the final leg.
Kotoka's Terminal 3, opened in 2018, is one of West Africa's best, and it is 15–30 minutes from Airport City, Cantonments, Osu and Labadi depending on the hour. Hotels arrange transfers. Accra is the arrival for the whole country: Cape Coast and Elmina castles are three hours by road, Kumasi a 45-minute flight or four hours by road, and the northern parks further. US citizens need a Ghana visa, obtained in advance, though a visa-on-arrival is available for certain periods, especially December; we flag it at booking.
December is the month. The "Detty December" season — Afrochella and the concerts, the Year of Return legacy, family homecomings — fills every premium cabin on the New York and Washington nonstops and the London and Amsterdam connections from mid-December to early January, with fares at their highest of the year; book by September. January through March is dry, with the Harmattan haze, and quieter. The rainy seasons, April–June and September–October, bring the lowest premium fares, below our $3,400 starting fare from New York.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”
