Flying Business & First Class to Taipei
EVA Air flies Taipei nonstop from New York JFK, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle with its Royal Laurel business cabin — a lie-flat 1-2-1 reverse-herringbone that has been rated among the best in Asia for years, with Rimowa amenity kits and a strong Taiwanese menu. Starlux, launched in 2020 and already a Skytrax favorite, flies A350-900s from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Ontario with a business cabin that has sliding doors and — on the A350 — a four-seat First Class, the only First on a Taiwan route. China Airlines flies New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Ontario; United flies Polaris from San Francisco; Delta flies Delta One from Seattle. One-stops via Tokyo, Seoul and Hong Kong on ANA, Japan Airlines, Korean Air and Cathay Pacific are the alternatives from cities without a nonstop.
Taoyuan is 25 miles from the city, with the Airport MRT reaching Taipei Main Station in 35 minutes and EVA's Infinity and Star lounges and Starlux's Galactic Lounge airside. Taipei is also one of the most useful connecting hubs in Asia: Bangkok is three and a half hours, Ho Chi Minh City three and a half, Manila two, Bali five and a half, Tokyo three, and EVA and Starlux both sell through-fares to those cities that often undercut the direct routings. The high-speed rail reaches Taichung in an hour and Kaohsiung in 90 minutes.
October through December is the season — warm, drier and clear — with March and April the second window for the cherry blossoms in Yangmingshan. Typhoon season runs July to September, when fares are lower but schedules can move. Lunar New Year in late January or February is the peak for Taiwanese-American family travel, and premium cabins on the West Coast nonstops fill weeks ahead. Our $3,400 starting fare from Los Angeles covers shoulder-season business; Starlux First is quoted on request.

EVA Air's Royal Laurel has been the benchmark for years; Starlux's newer cabin with sliding doors is rated at least as highly. On most dates the two price within a few hundred dollars of each other, so schedule and aircraft decide.

“Steven was enthusiastic (to a fault). His first of three offers was about 10% above my budget but the flights really fit the schedule so well I had to say yes. The other two offers were cheaper but the timing was off for me.”
